Shell to Shed Distribution Center

Shell plans to close its lubricants distribution center in Laval, Canada, by the end of April 2010 in a move it claims will
improve efficiency.
 
“Shell Canada Products and Pennzoil-Quaker State Canada lubricants businesses determined that customers
currently served by the Laval distribution center can be served more efficiently through our Burlington regional
distribution center and Brockville lubricant oil blending plant,” Shell spokesman Ted Rolfvondenbaumen told Lube
Report. “This decision also improves our ability to provide leading brands to the marketplace and strengthens
our competitive position.”
 
Rolfvondenbaumen said the closure will impact all employees at the Laval distribution center and that
they will be given “due consideration.” Shell did not disclose how many employees work at the center.
 
Laval is a city in southwestern Quebec.
 
In August, Shell announced it was trying to sell refineries in Stanlow, U.K., and in Montreal as part of an effort
to cut costs. The Montreal refinery has a base oil plant that has 2,700 barrels per day of API Group I capacity.
